Since NSI has managed to be allowed to charge 5-17 times too much for years 
now, pardon some of us for being a bit skeptical about cavalier attempts to 
assert the adequacy of this approach.

Indeed they are an under-appreciated group.

But my point wasn't a criticism of for-profit activities; rather it is a 
focus on incentives.

People and organizations use pretty much whatever means they can get away 
with maximizing the gain of their incentives, such as profit.

Your current employer is having some legal difficulties due to the question 
of excessive leverage.
