You are right, of course. However, within the protocols of the DNSO we can respond to Mr Sheppard that the WG has indeed already come up with an answer to the list of questions. The answer is that we need more time to answer them. 

There was no opposition to the request for a time extension.

Your "Task Force" has an answer, Mr. Sheppard. We are ahead of schedule.

	If the NC insists on retaining the Jan 15 deadline, it will render
its assignment of work to this WG a joke.  The task force in this matter
(which was composed of NC members, and which one would think was capable
of acting quickly) was established on August 7.  It took *four and
one-half months* (until December 21) to generate a list of questions, and
to cause this WG to be established.  With that background, to insist that
this WG produce the answers to those questions (a much harder task) within
four weeks after its announcement, including the Christmas and New Year's
holidays, is ludicrous.  The task was made harder by the decision to
announce the WG on the ICANN-announce list, thereby ensuring that the bulk
of the WG's members are unfamiliar with the WG process, but I believe that
it would have been impossible in any event.  If the NC is unwilling to
provide this group with a reasonable deadline, I for one will withdraw
from the group.  Whatever small credibility my participation offers, I
have no interest in lending it to an enterprise that is foreordained, by
its terms of reference and allotted life, to fail.
