From the above article;
""I don't believe that (the board) is legitimate until it consists at
least half of people who came from the Internet community," ICANN
Director Karl Auerbach told Newsbytes today."
"Auerbach has repeatedly expressed outrage over the fact that ICANN only
held "at-large" elections for five, rather than nine, board members last
year. ICANN commissioned a study to determine how and whether the
remaining four members should be elected.
In the meantime, the "at-large" half of the 18-member ICANN board is
made up of five elected officials who are bound by term limits and four
members who were chosen by ICANN's founders to serve on the body's
"interim" board in 1998.
Until the at-large study is completed, a process that could take up to
two years, the original interim board members - called "squatters" by
Auerbach and many ICANN critics, will remain on the board."
If the above is reported correctly, then, I think, I understand a bit
more of what has been said, in the mailing list.
I think that it is unfortunate, if it is correct, that, as yet, not all
of the 18 member ICANN board, are elected to the board, by the Internet
community, with the candidates being from the Internet community.
Sounds a bit to me, like the proverbial bureaucrats, controlling the
purchase of computers - "But, I like this computer more. It has more
flashing lights, and, I also like the computer because like this screen
saver, that makes the funny noises, and, has the funny cartoons of
Dilbert on it."
"Government, of the people, by the people, for the people."
