The EFF?! You're very mistaken. ICANN Empress Esther Dyson is from
the EFF. The EFF has never done anything to correct this process.
They are a front for its continuance, just like all the other
pseudo-public interest organizations that call for "freedom" on the
Internet but then tacitly support ICANN and its trumped-up
pro-big-business agenda by refusing to take any action against it.

The only organizations that have so far taken a stand are the DNRC
(first and foremost), CPSR (belatedly), and, to a lesser extent,
CPT. Yet not even they have been willing to take real action, which
means a legal struggle in court at the very least.

As Chris McElroy says, in the end it will be the ccTLDs and the
alternative root systems that will cause change from the present
status quo, because everyone in the US who is involved is either
compromised in one way or another or simply too cowardly to act.
