Nothing irritates me more than US Grade A Spam clogging my mailbox. Spam is
bad for bandwidth. In a lot of countries, one pays by the minute for
downloading email. (even I have to sometimes, if Telekom goes down - forcing me
to use an expensive call by call number)
Spam also causes great strain on mail servers. Thats why AOL went to battle
with Cyberpromo - Cyberpromo was literally taking their mail servers down with
the spam, pissing off the AOL members at the same time. I remember those
Cyberpromo days very well...
So thats why I'm anti-spam - its worse than just clogging your mailbox like a
junk flyer, from an Internet perspective. Spammers are costing networks money,
lots of it sometimes. Lots of Net admins see that as theft, and I don't really
blame them. Of course the junk flyer is bad for trees - granted. But that has
little to do with the Net. :)
all the best, Robin
