As it is now, most volunteer participants in the DNSO processes will 
continue to pay for the privilege themselves, either with time or money. 
Some may manage to get some consultancy fees or  a travel subsidy from here 
and there.
The reward is to be part of a historic development in Internet history, 
perhaps even to be able to make a difference.

The punishment is to be occasionally subjected to vilification, innuendo 
and outright slander.
