Re: [registrars] Not a problem
Bob,
I think your charactizations are off the mark and unfair.
It escapes me why requiring membership to vote is a "poll tax." If the RC
decides to do away with the dues, so be it. But right now that's the deal
to be a member. Persoannly, it's hard to imagine that someone can qualify
financially to become accredited and then can't come with $750.
It also escapes me why having some rules in place for our voting is such a
problem for some. If the technical issues involved with faxes and online
voting is such a problem, how in the world are you going to run a
registrar? No matter how we do it, there will always be issues when new
members come on board close a vote. But that's exactly when we need to be
careful about what we're doing to protect the validity of the results.
I am not involved in this constituency because I have nothing better to do
with my time. If this constituency succumbs to the childish antics of
voting in crayon it becomes nothing more than a joke and totally
ineffecive. I have too much respect for this constituency to stand by and
see that happen.

Dear Colleagues:
It is my point that a set of rules drafted to satisfy the techies may
not be sufficiently flexible to accommodate the many variables with
hoops too small for some to jump through.
In the US, we had "poll taxes" designed to keep
African-Americans from voting, very effectively disenfranchising
them. We have compounded the $750 poll tax with a technical
"eye of the needle". We have disenfranchised a few of our
"camels";-(
I do not suggest that we should make late changes, only that we had
been smarter during the DC meeting. Michael Palage tried to lead us
down a path which would have been more fair. Rick, on the other hand,
is so in love with this techie solution that he can't see the forest
for the trees.
Disappointed, BobC
