RE: [wg-c] new TLDs
At the risk of diving down one of your famous rat-holes, "allow" is
misplaced as that implies that those can also disallow. I don't see anyone
with the power to disallow WEB, regardless of imagined authority. I only see
editorial control of "a" root-zone. I also don't see where a single
root-zone can effectively be mandated, which is a point that the ORSC
root-zone has been proving for years. IANA/ICANN only has such powers over
the legacy zone. It is by no means the only zone.
What I rail against is political arbitrariness vs. a naturalized
business/technical determination. I believe that is a problem that many of
us have. Remove the political arbitrariness from the legacy root-zone and
the competing root-zones may disappear. Keep it, or exacerbate it, and there
will definitely be a competing root-service.
The current perception of the state of affairs is that it is grossly unfair
to many.
