Why should any gTLD that is not "shared" be considered a monopoly? Does it not
have to compete with other gTLD registries?
Using your definition every manufacturer in this country is a monopolist.
After all they are the only ones who can sell their particular brand of product.
The product is domain names, the extension is the brand.
Calling them a monopoly doesn't make it so.
