Fragmenting the WHOIS database just gave Name.Space an opportunity
to innovate once more, with its sWhois (smart Whois) that searches
ALL active registries including ICANN registrars, ccTLDs, IP numbers,
AS numbers, NIC handles. http://DNS411.com

Used daily by the Pentagon, MPAA, NASA, SITA, FBI, Senate, House,
various other Government agencies (international) as well as thousands
of users on the net who don't have access to a UNIX command line, sWhois
has become a very popular tool.  It works via the web or on the 
command line, whois -h swhois.net query

It also points out that there are working solutions for seamlessness
and transparency throughout a shared system. Getting others to implement
them is another story.
